Social graphics compete inside a 3-centimetre rectangle against a hundred others. Everything must read in under one second at thumbnail size.
- Three elements maximum: subject, three to five words of text, one accent.
- Faces and eyes outperform objects — emotion drives clicks.
- Extreme contrast: bright subject on dark background, or the inverse.
- Text must be legible at 20% zoom. Test by shrinking it.
- Consistent template = channel recognition in the feed.
| Asset | Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube thumbnail | 1280x720 | 16:9, under 2 MB |
| Shorts / TikTok cover | 1080x1920 | Keep text out of UI zones |
| Instagram post | 1080x1350 | 4:5 uses the most feed space |
| X / Twitter card | 1200x628 | Title overlays crop the edges |
| Poster (A3 print) | 297x420mm | 300 PPI + 3mm bleed |
Thumbnail hierarchy test
